The 3-flute geometry provides 40% more chip clearance than 4-flute tools. This is critical for aluminum roughing to prevent chip clogging, re-cutting, and catastrophic tool failure.
DLC coating offers an ultra-low friction coefficient (<0.1). Uncoated versions feature precision mirror-polished flutes. Both prevent soft aluminum from welding to the scalloped edges (BUE).
Optimized with a higher helix angle (typically 45°) to shear aluminum efficiently. This reduces axial cutting forces, minimizing part vibration and deflection during aggressive roughing.
When roughing high-silicon aluminum (7075, cast Al), the silicon particles are highly abrasive. HSS-Co (M35/M42) drastically improves wear resistance, extending tool life in continuous production.
