SPMT & WCMT – High-Efficiency Drilling on CNC Lathes
Request a Custom Tool Quote
Drilling turning inserts are used for drilling, boring, and compound drilling-turning operations directly on CNC lathes. They provide high feed rates, excellent chip control, and cost-effective performance compared to solid carbide drills, especially in medium to large diameter holes.
Amony offers two industry-standard drilling insert types:
Square shape with 4 cutting edges, high feed capability and strong stability. Ideal for general drilling, rough boring and compound operations in steel, cast iron and alloy steel.
80° trigon shape with positive rake geometry, lower cutting force and superior chip evacuation. Recommended for stainless steel, heat-resistant alloys and applications requiring good surface finish.
| Insert Type | Cutting Edges | Feed Rate | Best Materials | Key Advantage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SPMT | 4 | ★★★★★ | Steel, Cast Iron, Alloy Steel | High feed & stability |
| WCMT | 6 | ★★★★☆ | Stainless Steel, Heat-Resistant Alloys | Low cutting force & chip control |
Both inserts are made from premium carbide grades with advanced PVD coatings (TiAlN, AlTiN) for extended tool life and reliable performance in lathe drilling applications.
