Forming Taps (also called Roll Taps) do not cut material — they displace it by cold forming. This process creates threads with 20-30% higher tensile strength, no chips, dramatically longer tool life (often 5-10× longer than cutting taps), and excellent surface finish.
They are the best choice for ductile materials: aluminum, copper, brass, low-carbon steel, stainless steel, and even some titanium grades.
Amony offers three popular specifications that cover most production needs:
Most versatile model, JIS precision, excellent for aluminum, copper, low-carbon steel and stainless steel.
American Unified Coarse thread, perfect for US standard parts in automotive, machinery and consumer electronics.
Extended shank (150–300 mm) for deep cavity forming in molds, large workpieces and hard-to-reach areas.
All taps are made from premium M2/M35/M42 cobalt HSS, with TiN coating as standard. Pre-drill size is typically 0.1-0.2 mm larger than standard cutting taps.
| Model | Standard | Thread Type | Best Materials | Key Feature |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HSS-E JIS TiN Coated | JIS | Metric | Al, Cu, low-carbon steel, SS | Most popular, balanced performance |
| HSS-E UNC TiN Coated | UNC | Unified Coarse | US standard parts | American thread, high volume |
| HSS-E Long Shank TiN Coated | Metric | Metric | Deep cavity forming | Long reach up to 300 mm |
