High Speed Steel (HSS) drill bits remain the most widely used and cost-effective choice for general-purpose drilling in steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass, and non-ferrous metals. They offer excellent toughness, are easy to resharpen, and typically cost only 20–40% of equivalent solid carbide drills.
Amony HSS drill bits are precision ground with 118° or 135° point geometry and are available in four material grades and three shank types. We also offer HSS Co 90° spotting drill bits for accurate hole starting and chamfering.
| Grade | Cobalt Content | Hardness (HRC) | Recommended Materials | Heat Resistance | Typical Use Case |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HSS 4241 / 4341 | 0% | 62–64 | Low-medium carbon steel, cast iron | ★★☆☆☆ | General & low-cost production |
| HSS 6542 (M2) | 0% | 63–65 | General steel, alloy steel, cast iron | ★★★☆☆ | Most popular universal grade |
| HSS M35 (5% Co) | 5% | 64–66 | Stainless steel, alloy steel, titanium | ★★★★☆ | Higher speed & heat resistance |
| HSS M42 (8% Co) | 8% | 65–67 | Hard stainless, Inconel, high-temp alloys | ★★★★★ | Most demanding applications |
