*The 6-flute design is specifically engineered for D50 and D52 diameters to maximize cutting edges in contact, drastically reducing chatter and improving surface flatness during heavy facing operations.
● All sizes in stock | Diameter tolerance: h6. Custom sizes and extended lengths available upon request.
Uncoated standard HSS provides exceptional shock resistance. This is critical for large-diameter tools that encounter high cutting forces and intermittent cuts in heavy-duty applications.
Without a coating layer to compromise, these tools can be resharpened multiple times by your local tool room while maintaining the original geometry, drastically reducing long-term tooling costs.
The D50 and D52 models feature a 6-flute design. More cutting edges in the cut simultaneously dampen vibration, improve surface finish, and allow for higher table feed rates.
The bright, uncoated finish works exceptionally well with flood coolant, ensuring efficient heat dissipation and chip evacuation during aggressive heavy stock removal.
| Workpiece Material | Hardness | Suitability | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carbon Steel (A36, 1045) | < 30 HRC | ◎ Excellent | Primary application. Use moderate speeds with abundant flood coolant for optimal chip evacuation. |
| Cast Iron (GG20, GG30) | - | ◎ Excellent | Uncoated HSS handles the abrasive nature of cast iron well. Air blast is recommended to clear graphite dust. |
| Aluminum (Large Parts) | - | ◎ Excellent | Large diameter uncoated HSS is highly effective for facing and pocketing large aluminum blocks. Use high RPM. |
| Alloy Steel (4140, 4340) | < 35 HRC | ◐ Limited | Machinable, but requires conservative cutting parameters (lower Vc) and rigid setups to prevent premature wear. |
| Hardened Steel / Stainless | > 35 HRC | ✗ Not Recommended | Standard HSS lacks the red hardness for these materials. Use our HSS-Co or Carbide alternatives. |
◎ = Excellent | ◐ = Limited (Requires parameter adjustment) | ✗ = Not Recommended
Facing, slotting, and profiling of large steel plates, frames, and structural components where high material removal rates are prioritized over ultra-fine finishes.
Efficient roughing and semi-finishing of large mold bases (e.g., P20). The toughness of uncoated HSS withstands the interrupted cuts common in mold machining.
Large-diameter face milling of aluminum and cast iron blocks. The 6-flute D50/D52 variants provide exceptional surface flatness and reduced vibration.
| Workpiece Material | Cutting Speed (Vc) | Feed per Tooth (fz) | Radial Engagement (ae) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carbon Steel (< 30 HRC) | 30 - 50 m/min | 0.08 - 0.15 mm/tooth | 40% - 60% of D |
| Cast Iron | 40 - 60 m/min | 0.10 - 0.18 mm/tooth | 50% - 70% of D |
| Aluminum (Large Parts) | 150 - 250 m/min | 0.10 - 0.20 mm/tooth | 50% - 80% of D |
| Alloy Steel (4140) | 25 - 40 m/min | 0.06 - 0.12 mm/tooth | 30% - 50% of D |
*Note: Large diameter tools require lower spindle RPM (N = Vc × 1000 / (π × D)) but can handle higher table feed rates due to multiple teeth in the cut.
