Carbide Grade Selection Guide for TNMA

Optimized CVD coated substrates specifically engineered for cast iron turning across ISO K material groups.

KA3115 Continuous Turning

High hardness matrix with nano thick film CVD coating. Provides extremely wear-resistant performance for continuous turning of cast iron, maximizing tool life in abrasive environments.

Why Choose Amony TNMA for Cast Iron Rough Turning?

Solving critical pain points for B2B manufacturers requiring cost-effective, durable, and high-strength turning solutions for abrasive materials.

6-Edge Maximum Economy

TNMA's 60° triangular shape provides 6 usable unground cutting edges. This drastically reduces your cost-per-part and inventory management overhead compared to ground inserts.

Result: Up to 40% reduction in annual insert consumption costs.

Extreme Edge Strength (Unground)

The unground edge geometry provides maximum toughness to withstand the abrasive nature of cast iron and heavy interrupted cuts without micro-chipping.

Result: Uninterrupted machining cycles on forged and cast components.

Advanced Nano CVD Coating (KA3115)

Our KA3115 grade features a high hardness matrix with nano thick film CVD coating. It offers exceptional wear resistance in the most demanding cast iron continuous turning operations.

Result: Extended tool life in abrasive cast iron environments.

Factory Direct & OEM Support

As an ISO 9001 certified manufacturer, we provide direct pricing, stable lead times, and OEM support (laser marking, private packaging). Our engineers offer free CAM parameter optimization.

Result: Optimized supply chain costs and dedicated technical partnership.

Cast Iron Rough Turning Applications

Where Amony TNMA inserts deliver unbeatable performance and cost-efficiency.

Gray Cast Iron Roughing (ISO K)

Heavy rough turning of gray cast iron components. The KA3115 grade ensures excellent wear resistance against abrasive graphite flakes.

Recommended: TNMA160408 / KA3115

Benefit: Nano thick film CVD coating provides extremely wear-resistant performance.

Automotive Brake Discs & Drums

High-volume rough turning of automotive cast iron components. TNMA's 6-edge design significantly reduces tool change frequency.

Recommended: TNMA220412 / KA3115

Benefit: Maximizes productivity and extends tool life in mass production.

Heavy Machinery Castings

Deep cuts and high feeds are required to remove large volumes of material on heavy industrial castings. TNMA ensures stability under extreme radial loads.

Recommended: TNMA220416 / KA3115

Benefit: High rigidity for large diameter roughing in demanding applications.

Pump & Valve Housing Machining

Continuous turning of cast iron pump and valve housings. The unground edge withstands the abrasive scale often found on cast surfaces.

Recommended: TNMA160412 / KA3115

Benefit: Excellent cost-performance for general continuous turning of cast iron.

Recommended Cutting Parameters (ap & f)

Best Practices for Cast Iron Rough Turning

Center Height is Critical

For negative inserts like TNMA, setting the tool exactly on the center height is mandatory. Deviations cause massive flank wear and vibration.

Dry Machining Preferred

Cast iron produces abrasive dust. Dry machining or air blast is often preferred to prevent slurry formation that accelerates flank wear.

Tool Holder Selection

Use robust clamping systems like PTBNR or PTJNR. The top-clamp mechanism must provide immense force to prevent shifting under heavy impact.

Avoid Dwell Marks

Never stop the feed while the insert is engaged. Cast iron work-hardens the surface layer, which can instantly destroy the cutting edge upon re-entry.

Frequently Asked Questions

TNMA inserts feature a 60° triangular negative geometry with 6 usable cutting edges and unground edges. This provides maximum edge strength and cost-efficiency for heavy rough turning of cast iron and other abrasive materials.

For cast iron rough turning, the KA3115 grade is highly recommended. It features a nano thick film CVD coating and high hardness matrix, providing extremely wear-resistant performance for continuous turning of cast iron.

Unground TNMA inserts are significantly more cost-effective than ground inserts. They are specifically designed for roughing operations where extreme edge strength is required to withstand the abrasive nature of cast iron and heavy interrupted cuts.
